Background

I am currently an undergraduate student going into my final year at the University of Birmingham in the UK. I am studying a degree in Money, Banking and Finance. I recently managed to secure a finance internship at the ÏãåúÖ±²¥ (ISP) that will be extremely beneficial for me going into my final year at university. As part of my university course I have chosen a professional development module where I have to keep a journal of the new skills I have learnt that relate to my degree. During a break from my internship I also managed to spend a few weeks travelling around India. I got to explore The Golden Triangle (Dehli, Agra and Jaipur) and visit cultural landmarks such as The Agra Fort. The highlight of my trip was getting to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise which was truly breathtaking.

developMENT

My internship has helped me to apply the knowledge I’ve learnt from my accounting modules at university into real life situations; such as when I was consolidating and reviewing the management accounts and balance sheets from the ÏãåúÖ±²¥regional teams. I have developed a greater understanding of how finance systems and teams work in practice in real life scenarios. My problem solving, and analytical skills have greatly improved through being in a working environment and getting hands on practical experience. Not only have I improved in all of these areas, but I have also greatly enhanced my communications skills and confidence by working with lots of different people in different parts of the world.

I AM AMAZING

I can now use Microsoft Excel more effectively. I used it every day on different tasks during my internship, allowing me to develop shortcuts and formula knowledge and learning how to use pivot tables to analyse data. These new skills are extremely useful to me, especially for my last year of university as a few of my exams are excel based. I have also learnt to perfect my time management skills and juggle various tasks, which is another useful skill that will help with my studies and my future career.
