So, with this genetic background, thus began my life as a travelling History teacher.
Background
My mother and father were married in 1955 and immediately left England to start a new life together as teachers in Jamaica. So, with this genetic background, thus began my life as a travelling History teacher. To Greece first, and then later to Thailand, Chile and now Spain, with some great UK schools in there too. Of course, it wasn´t only the travel which was the driver, or I think this globe-trotting might have lost its appeal long ago! It was the challenge, and constant fascination of living in a different culture and making the necessary mental and physical adjustments, as well as growing in my understanding of the world. I´ve also seen first hand the benefits an international education brought to our own children, who grew up in three continents and three quite contrasting cultures too.
developMENT
My previous role was as a Headteacher in the UK. I had been there for eight years in what was an increasingly secure and happy role when the opportunity to work with ÏãåúÖ±²¥ (ISP) came along. I took the plunge, first as Head of Laude The British School of Vila-Real and Director of our Spanish Schools and then as Regional Managing Director for the twelve schools we now have in Europe. I am still at heart a teacher, but ÏãåúÖ±²¥has given me so much more responsibility and opportunity to influence our learners than I was getting as a single school teacher or senior leader. I have continued to learn and adapt to the role, which itself has widened.
I AM AMAZING
I work with amazing people. I am supported by a team of truly committed Heads and my European team of experts, as well as the Directors in London, all working towards the common goal of making this an organisation which believes in and delivers Amazing Learning. To unwind, I love football, support Newcastle United and now Villarreal too, and love to spend time sailing with my family. If there´s anything I have learned in all the years of educational leadership, it is quite simple – always be prepared to admit mistakes and learn from them. And really, never take yourself too seriously!
